Il fiore di luppolo is a beer commerce located on the flanks of the Monte San Salvatore in Pazzallo-Lugano. The shop currently offers a wide selection of Belgian beers, supplemented with a selection of beers from the Netherlands, the UK, the US and of course Switzerland.
Furthermore, Il fiore di luppolo offers unique tasting sessions to companies, associations, private groups, as well as professional consultancy to bars and restaurants.
The idea for the shop came when its owner, Nico De Backer, decided to relocate to Lugano. When somebody asked what he would miss most about Belgium, he didn’t have to think long: Belgian specialty beer! Under the motto “bring along what you can’t miss”, Nico started working on the idea of his own beer shop. Months of research, preparation and hard work meant the activities could start in July 2014.
Nico De Backer is Belgian. After having worked as a web developer in Belgium, he retained himself to become a beer culture advocate, spreading the (Belgian) beer culture in his new country Switzerland and its Ticino canton.
Nico studied at the CVO Elishout (Anderlecht, Belgium) and The Beer Academy (London, UK) and is a “Certified Beer Server in the Cicerone® Program” and “Swiss beer sommelier”. He’s a board member of Associazione BIRA and a member of The Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA) and the Belgian beer consumer association, Zythos. He also teaches the course “Conoscere e degustare la birra” at Migros School.
